According to ye olde wedding traditions, the bride walks up the aisle with her father, and is then 'given away' to her groom. Kind of like a present, or something you'd do with an item that you own. Hmmm.
Perhaps this doesn't sit right with you, or maybe your father simply isn't around anymore. No matter what the reason, there are so many alternative ways to kick start your wedding ceremony, without anyone being given away like the leftover Bounty in a box of Celebrations.
Here are three ideas you can use on your wedding day instead:
Walk up the aisle with your partner.
It's your big day, celebrating your togetherness. Why not enter the ceremony hand-in-hand with your love? Enter as a team, leave as a team. It's simple and will make for a great photo opportunity.
You may also have heard of the 'first first look' or 'very first look' which is fast becoming a trend with couples. You get to meet each other outside of the ceremony space before you go inside to say your vows. That moment when their eyes light up at the sight of you is shared just between you two. Pretty special.
Mingle with your guests before the ceremony
If you dread the whole idea of walking up the aisle and everyone gawping at your entrance, this is a great option. At the start of the ceremony, you can already be there, simply make your way to the front while people are still taking their seats. There you have it...you have made it into position without everyone turning to look at you all at the same time.
Ask your venue about different room layouts
When you think of a wedding venue, we tend to assume that everyone will enter at the back and the ceremony space will be laid out at the very front, so the couple will have to pass by everyone to get up there. That's not necessarily the case.
Speak to your venue about alternative room layouts. You might be able to reverse engineer the space, so that the ceremony takes place nearer the entrance. They might have other options for you. It's a good idea to ask venues about different ceremony layouts when you go to viewings.
